In Episode 4 of our Road to 5.0 series, we head back to the PPA Cape Coral Open, the same tournament where our journey first started, but this time at a higher level and with a completely different mindset. Plus, we made some changes to how we're approaching and documenting this vlog series.

Competing at the PPA Cape Coral Open | Road to 5.0 Episode 4

In the latest episode of our vlog, episode 4, you’ll follow us up to Cape Coral, Florida, where we compete in the PPA Cape Coral Open, a tournament that actually means a lot to us for reasons that go beyond just another weekend of matches and results.

The PPA Cape Coral Open is special because it was the very first PPA tournament we ever competed in back in March 2025, so coming back here a year later, this time playing at a higher level and with a lot more experience under our belts, felt like a full circle moment, one of those checkpoints where you can actually see the progress instead of just hoping it’s there.

Behind the scenes, we’ve made a couple of changes to the vlog series that are worth talking about, because they shift the direction of what we’re documenting here.

First change was that we decided to rename the series from Father Son Road to 5.0 to Pickleball Family: Road to 5.0. The more we thought about it, the more obvious it became that this journey isn't just about me and my dad. It’s about our whole family. I will say that we’ve never been the type of family that forces kids into a sport they don’t want to play, that’s just not how we approach things, but what’s been cool is that all my siblings have chosen to be part of this on their own. We all play, we all enjoy it, and we’re all chasing a higher level, which makes it feel less like an individual grind and more like a shared mission, and ultimately led us to rename the series so it reflects the full story instead of just a small part of it. So instead of keeping the focus narrow, it just made sense to open it up and include everyone in the story.

The second big change is how we’re approaching the videos themselves.

Originally, we were thinking about this series more like a docuseries, something a bit more structured and polished, like mini documentaries, but the more we worked on it, the more we realized that it didn’t really match how we experience these tournaments in real time. So we shifted toward a true vlog style, something more in the moment, more boots on the ground, where you’re seeing things as they truly happen. This episode is the first one where we really leaned into that style, so it’s a little rough around the edges. Going forward, you can expect more personal storytelling, more real time reactions, and a better look at what this pickleball journey feels like from the inside.

If you enjoy the video, make sure to subscribe to the YouTube channel, and feel free to like, comment, and share it with anyone who’s following along or just getting into pickleball themselves, because this is something we’re building for the long run, and it only gets better from here.
